Thoughts on blogging from a "Web professional"

In the 8 years that I've been in Web design, I've seen 2 perfect unions of Web technology and human interaction: eBay and blogging.

I discovered eBay early. I was turning other folks onto the world's largest online garage sale long before they were advertising on TV. I have purchased hundreds of dollars worth of decor, memorabilia and tikis (more about this in further posts, I'm sure) without a hitch. It's all on the honor system, and I've never once been disappointed in a transaction. It has consistently given me hope for the Web and hope in mankind. Truly.

Blogging is equally brilliant. Taking an everyday, commonplace activity like journaling or diary-keeping and publishing it worldwide, unencumbered by editors, censors or the FCC... at least for now. Add to that the ability for friends and strangers alike to expound on those thoughts, transforming a single stream of consciousness into a mighty river of mass consciousness. It's astounding. It's art. It's Freedom Of Speech.

I don't know why I've been so slow to appreciate blogging, or why I've never actively participated. But I'm thrilled to be doing it now. To me, it's the stuff we'll tell grandchildren about, when the Web has been replaced by something even more amazing. When "message boards" will sound like Pong to future technochildren. The idea that we bid on and won goods online and trusted strangers to mail us our newfound treasures, or the notion that we would put our daily thoughts into words and entrust them to a worldwide audience... these will be the memories of a quaint, bygone era.

Thanks for dragging us into the future, Brandon. And for getting us off on the right foot, Kyle. Murph, we await your input anxiously. Let's go, boys.

the blogger thing is messing me up today. I have had trouble posting on my own blog and commenting. This is try #2. Just wanted to say--I covet your prayers regarding my mom's move. She is serious and will look at a house for the second time tonight. I sent Kyle a blog to post for me. It expresses a little more of where I am on all this. Have a great Tuesday, fellas!
